DFRS have reported the above-mentioned incident resulting in the activation of the premises commercial sprinkler system
The incident
- DFRS were called to a ground floor fire located in the industrial press machine
- Involving the attendance of three fire pumping appliances
- On arrival operational crews established that the fire had been extinguished by the actuation of the sprinkler system, member of staff using a fire extinguisher
- Operational crews checked for hot spots using a thermal image camera
- Enquires are ongoing to establish the cause of the fire
- Fire damage at time of stop 5m²
- Premises emergency plan implemented resulting in 20 staff members evacuating the premises
Business Continuity
The benefits of sprinklers for industrial businesses should not be underestimated, this incident clearly demonstrates
- Preventing a minor small fire from accelerating into a major fire
- Minor disruption reported for the business
- Severe damage, loss of earnings and ongoing disruption to the business was avoided
- If sprinklers were not fitted the outcome of the fire could have resulted in the buildings unit being either completely or partially destroyed
