Salford high rise refuse store sprinkler save

GMFRS have reported a fire in a high rise residential block involving a large refuse plastic industrial bin located on the ground floor of the refuse store, two sprinkler heads operated suppressing the fire before the arrival of operational crews. Due to the prompt activation of the sprinkler system the fire was contained to the compartment/room of origin.

The benefits of sprinklers for refuse store fires have been clearly identified by Dagenham & Barking Local Authority. Following an investment of £465,00 which included £85,000 from London Fire Brigade the decision was taken for the installation of sprinklers in all their specialized housing schemes, high rise block refuse stores containing bin chutes. The outcome of which will provide a further layer of safety from fire where their tenants are most at risk from fire.
