WYFRS have reported the above-mentioned incident resulting in the activation of the premises commercial sprinkler system

Incident

• 3 x Pump fire with pumping appliances attending from local stations
• Fire within a commercial unit, indoor sporting venue
• Commercial Sprinkler system actuated following a fire involving a electrical appliance which spread to rubber matting
• 200 people evacuated the premises following the activation of the premises fire alarm system

Sprinkler system

• Interfaced with the fire detection and fire alarm system allowing the alarm to be raised
• Water supply, designated suction tank
• Extinguished the fire, with no further firefighting action required from WYFRS on arrival
• 3x Pendent Sprinkler heads actuated

 Benefits of the sprinkler system

• Rapidly reduced the rate of production of heat and smoke allowing the fire service crucial time to implement their operational tactical plan
• Fire damage was limited to the area in the vicinity of the seat of the fire
• The fire did not spread from the compartment of origin
• No injuries reported, complex evacuation plan successfully implemented

Business Continuity

• This incident clearly demonstrates the importance of protecting muti-occupancy entertainment centres with a commercial sprinkler system.
• Preventing a minor small fire from accelerating into a major fire with only minor disruption to the unit directly involved with the fire, The business is reported to reopen on the 26 August
• Other commercial units/activity sites were not affected, remain opened as usual following the fire
• Severe damage, loss of earnings and ongoing disruption to the business was avoided
• If sprinklers were not fitted the outcome of the fire could have resulted in the  buildings unit being either completely or partially destroyed
