Greater London Tall Building Kitchen Fire Sprinkler Activation

LFB have reported the above-mentioned fire involving an electrical appliance within the kitchen extinguished by the activation of the premises sprinkler system, no further firefighting was required. Fire spread was limited to item 1st ignited with total damage reported to be 50-100sqm.

This incident demonstrates that a correctly designed and installed sprinkler system can detect, raise the alarm and control or in this case extinguish a fire at an early stage of development and activate an alarm.

The review is broken down into three key areas: a look at fire trends in Greater London for the period 2018-2021 with reference to the fire datasets captured by the IRS, an overview of fire data-sets for the same period where sprinklers were recorded as being present in three key property types – and finally a collection of AFSS sprinkler save case studies that were reported to the Sprinkler Saves website.
