Essex Residential Sprinkler Save

Essex County Fire & Rescue Service (communications department) have reported that a bin fire in a residential block of flats was successfully extinguished following the activation of the residential sprinkler system. The cause of the fire was a candle which had been extinguished but not cooled sufficiently before it was disposed of in the bin.
On arrival crews established that the sprinkler system had successfully extinguished the fire, damage to the premises was minimal.

Crew Manager, Jonathan Allen, Harlow Fire Station, said:
“This incident shows how important it is to make sure candles are fully cooled before disposing of them. “This week is National Candle Safety week, and with winter around the corner, people will be using candles more. We encourage you to take a look at all of our safety advice to make sure candles set the mood, not a fire.”
